Abstract
|

|
The congenital anomalies of the head and neck were originated from anomalous development of the branchial apparatus, which revealed increasing tendency nowadays due to deterioration of environmental conditions and abuse of many chemicals.
We present 1 case of the branchial anomaly, which was located on the left mid-neck and temporarily named rudimentary ectopic mouth.
We suppose that it was originated from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd branchial arch components earlier than 4 weeks in embryonal period.
The abnormal structure consists of oval shaped opening with mucosal lining and surrounding elevated skin with hairs, Also hyoid bone like structure was found inside the structure by X-ray.
It was contracted simultaneously with swallowing movement due to probable innervation of the stylopharyngeal branch of the glossopharyngeal nerve.
Histopathological findings of the resected specimen were well compatible with the tongue, oral and perioral structures including salivary gland.
